Ethnographic Heritage
Located on the right bank of the Ribeira de Quarteira, near the Paderne Castle, in an area of the Rede Natura 2000.
The date of construction of this water-mill is not known, but it is known that these devices are older than windmills and are a legacy of the Arab period. This grinding system uses the force of the water on a caster as an impulse. In 1504, in the charter granted by King Manuel I, there is a reference to these milling systems, proving their antiquity and the technological importance they played in the community.
Next to the water-mill is the PR1 footpath - the Castle Trail, which is also part of the Quarteira Stream Biodiversity Station.
