Ethnographic Heritage
Testimony to a rural landscape characteristic of the pre-industrial era, the "Moinho do Caniné" is one of the best preserved examples of typical windmills whose tower housed the gear that, driven by the energy captured by cloth sails, made the whole grinding system turn. Especially during the summer season, it was an important alternative to the various water mills known in the surrounding area. Built at the top of a high hill, the way to get there can be an arduous challenge but it is rewarded by the breathtaking scenery, with a panoramic view of the city of Silves, in the heart of the Barrocal, and to the north, the vastness of the peaks that make up the Algarve hills.
