Traditional Villages
The news that tell of the existence of various pre- and proto-historic graves on the platform where this small village is located constitute irrefutable proof of the antiquity of human occupation in this place. This fact is undoubtedly due to the good agricultural capacity of the soils and the fact that it is easy to collect water, a rare circumstance in the orography occupied by the settlement which, corresponding to the top of a prominent elevation, also gave it a relevant position in the transition between the mountainous inland and the barrocal area. On cloudless days, it is even possible to see the coastline, revealing itself to be a superb natural belvedere that, together with a relatively well-kept and well-preserved urban structure, make the village a pleasant place to visit. The small urban area is made up of modest houses that respect the traditional rustic Algarvian architecture, structured around a single cobbled street. On the northern edge of the hill, a little away from the main residential nucleus, there is an old windmill with an outbuilding that corresponds to the miller's house, an ensemble that has recently been restored for private residence and which reinforces the evidence of a rurality that still marks this area today.
