Taste the best of the region
Whether you’re planning to go or already are in the territory of the aspiring Geopark Algarvensis Loulé-Silves-Albufeira, in the middle of the Algarve hills or barrocal, then you can choose what you want to taste from the region's various delicacies, recalling ancestral flavours. Simplicity, authenticity and quality is what you will find. Proof of this are the smoked hams and sausages, the "cerejada" chicken, the chickpea, bean or lentil stew, the broad beans or peas "à algarvia" (Algarve style) and the various tender and succulent meats of pork, lamb, wild boar or partridge. As for grain, corn makes the delights in the form of corn porridge: the xarém (with pork rinds or smoked ham).
But there are more flavours to discover, which can be enjoyed in the chorizos, the pickled carrots, the carob bread or the sweet and juicy Silves orange.
In terms of sweets, remember the almond "morgadinhos", the fig cheese, the honey and “chila”(spaguethi squash,fig leaf squash, malabar gourd) cakes, the "Dom Rodrigo" and the "filhós" (fried pastries). And there's nothing like a good Algarvian wine and “medronho” (local spirit) to accompany and enhance these traditional flavours.
