This deposit is in an area of ​​contact due to a fault of a pelite unit with a unit of Silves red sandstones (Silves Grés Formation). In the pelite unit, there is a layer with a large accumulation of fossil carapace fragments of placodonts from the Cyamodontoidea clade, marine reptiles mainly superficially similar to turtles.
