Built as a fortification around the 10th century for the protection of the elites who ruled the city, it underwent changes over time that made it suitable for different uses and modified aspects of its original appearance.
It still encloses silos from the Islamic period that stored cereals, cisterns that supplied the city with water and ruins of the palaces inhabited at the time, which are now partially museum-dedicated and, in one of its towers, exhibit objects from the daily life of the people who occupied the place.
