Walls of the Almedina
These were part of the defensive system of the Islamic city, surrounding it in an area of approximately 8 hectares. Built of military rammed earth (taipa)and covered in stone in some parts, it has 18 towers, 10 of which are of the "albarran" type, preceded by a barbican also made of taipa (rammed earth).
It had three gates (Azóia, Sol and Medina) that are not preserved. It underwent alterations during the Christian era, with a monumental double elbow gate, located in the southern sector, which allowed the circulation between the city and its suburbs.
