In this site at the top of a hill along the Vascão river valley, it is possible to see the geological contact between the greywacke-rich Mértola Formation and the shale-rich Mira Formation. This location is also an excellent place to see the Rio do Vascão meanders, which were formed before the Serra do Caldeirão was uplifted in the Neogene.
