Geological History
This medieval bridge crosses the Tôr River, following the Algibre Fault. The Algibre Fault corresponds to a geomorphological element with an East-West orientation that reflects the geological accident called thrusting and that corresponds to a movement along a fault causing the displacement of a block over another of the same age or more recent. In this case, limestone rocks from the Early Jurassic (201 - 174 million years ago) overlie more recent limestone rocks from the Late Jurassic (163 - 145 million years ago).
The morphology of the landscape to the north and south of the Algibre Fault, with more conspicuous valleys and hills, is determined by the difference in rock hardness, river dynamics and regional tectonics.
