Created in 2011 under the aegis of the National Commission for UNESCO, the Portuguese Forum of UNESCO Global Geoparks is a platform to deepen the knowledge between the Portuguese Geoparks already belonging to the world network of UNESCO, and thus encourage greater exchange of experiences and define conditions, methods and goals of joint work for the future; being open to support the entry of new Geoparks that intend to integrate the Global Geoparks Network, tutored by the UNESCO Global Geoparks Programme. Thus, and in the condition of aspiring, the Geopark Algarvensis Loulé-Silves-Albufeira, was admitted as an observer member, on January 8, 2020 in the Portuguese Forum of Geoparks.
